The Beatitudes are the core of the "Sermon of the Mountain" by Jesus:
Though not a believer I have always considered this text as one of the highest expressions
of moral concern therefore rejecting Friedrich Nietzsche´s and James Joyce opinions on the matter.
Back in 2001 I started a series of documentaries on this subject. I have been able to complete only two so far.
"The Righteous", was the first, and it dealt with the constitutionalist crowd in the Basque Country.
All of them under basque´s guerrillas fire. Fact is Joxeba Pagazaurtundua, one of the leads in the movie was
murdered by ETA shortly after the completion of the film.
The second was shot in 2003 and was dedicated to the poor of the Earth. "The Desert and the Waves".
The desert being Arizona and the Waves being the Strait of Gibraltar. Did you know BTW that Spain is second
only to the US in population increase?

Here are the Beatitudes:
5.3.- Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
5.4.- Blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
5.5.- Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
5.6.- Blessed are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.
5.7.- Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.
5.8.- Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God.
5.9.- Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called children of God.
5.10.- Blessed are they who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
